"The work of Dutch photographer Risk Hazekamp investigates gender's performativity, by separating masculinity from the male body. This work calls into question prevailing views on gender, for example in the series Giant (2001, 2009, 2017), in which Hazekamp poses and auto-photographs as James Dean in a well-known pose from the film Giant, in a re-performance – a performance of an earlier performance – in what has to become a continuing project (with new pictures and performances every eight years)."
